I don't do well with the electronic gizmos that have overrun our world. If it weren't for my nine-year-old, our DVD player would still be blinking 12:00. By necessity I've learned to navigate my computer, but I don't use a tenth of what it's capable of.
When it was time to get a new cell phone my search for a phone that was just a phone became an epic odyssey. (Two hours on a Sunday afternoon). Couldn't find one. I ended up with a Motorola razor that does all sorts of useless nonsense. I just use the phone part.
The internet, on the other hand, is a blessing for a boxing writer like myself. Fights I haven't seen are often available on YouTube. It's a fight research goldmine. Ditto my satellite TV subscription. Devices like TiVo allow me to scrutinize every detail of a fighter's technique. (I've already watched the Mayweather/Hatton fight a dozen times). I'm adapting.
There was a time when observation and "The Elements of Style" were all I needed. But I've grown accustomed to the convenience of modern technology. As long as it's convenient and not complicated. I can't be interrupting my son's homework every time I push the wrong button on the remote.
