The Sixth WWE WrestleMania

Professional Wrestling's Greatest Event

WWE's sixth installment in the WrestleMania series featured Hulk Hogan vs. The Ultimate Warrior in a Champion vs. Champion match.

Crossing the border into Canada, WrestleMania went International in 1990 for the sixth installment of WrestleMania. Hulk Hogan and the Ultimate Warrior squared off against each other in the main event giving WrestleMania 6 the tagline “The Ultimate Challenge.” As is tradition, Gorilla Monsoon and Jesse “the Body” Ventura called the action in front of 67,678 screaming Canadian wrestling fans. Since the event took place in Canada, Robert Goulet opened the event with the singing of the Canadian National Anthem.

WrestleMania six featured several great matches that included Shawn Michaels, Bret Hart, Mr. Perfect, and other superstars. The tag team titles were on the line when Ax and Smash challanged the Colossal Connection of Haku and Andre “the Giant.” With manager, Bobby “the Brain” Heenan, at ringside, Haku and Andre faced a pair of former multi-time tag team title holders. Late in the match Andre held Smash hoping that Haku could connect with a superkick, but Smash ducked and Andre got knocked down and tangled in the ring ropes. Capitalizing on the opportunity, Ax and Smash hit Haku with the Demolition Decapitation to pick up the victory and becoming new tag team champions. Irate from the loss of his tag team titles, Bobby Heenan slapped Andre across the face; a move which he immediately regretted when Andre slapped him a number of times and knocked him from the ring.

One of the 2007 Inductees into the WWE Hall of Fame, Dusty Rhodes, competed in a mixed tag team match with his partner Sapphire against the Macho King Randy Savage and a 2006 inductee to the WWE Hall of Fame, Sensational Queen Sherri. In an interview segment prior to the match Sapphire and Dusty claimed that they were fighting royalty, but they had the crown jewel of wrestling. Standing in the middle of the ring, Dusty Rhodes introduced the Macho Man’s former manager, Miss Elizabeth, as this crown jewel. Elizabeth provided enough distraction to draw Sensational Queen Sherri’s attention. Grabbing Sherri by the hair and forcing her back into the ring, Elizabeth gets the assist when Sapphire followed up by pinning Sherri for the victory

In other action Bret Hart’s tag team, The Hart Foundation, picked up a victory against the Bolsheviks in a matter of seconds, while Shawn Michaels continued his losing streak as his tag team, The Rockers, lost to the Orient Express.

The fans in Toronto saw match after match of exciting action, but everyone in attendance traveled to see the Ultimate Warrior defend his Intercontinental Title against Hulk Hogan, who defended his title against the Ultimate Warrior in the same match. Correctly billed as the Ultimate Challenge, fans at ringside were split down the middle not knowing who to cheer for. Adding to the split crowd, both Hogan and the Warrior attempted pinfalls that should have ended the match, but the referee was down for both occasions. Hogan did manage to set the Warrior up for his legdrop with a big boot to the face, but as the Hulkster went to drop the leg Warrior moved at the last second. With Fireworks going off inside the Skydome, the Warrior held both Championship belts high having defeated Hogan with a Warrior splash.
